Abstract

This article examines a new literary genre, the narrative portraiture, examining its characteristics and transformations, and looking at its origin and its relationship with other arts and adjacent literary genre, through Kamal Al-Ayadi Al-King’s collection, which he published in a book called Fifty Portraits and a Portrait. In this research, we were able to achieve at least two goals, the first of which is general, in which we examined the issue of literary genres in their origin, development, and transformation through a modern literary genre that is narrative portraiture, and the second is specific, in which we explored the technical and stylistic characteristics that distinguish portrait writing by Kamal Al Ayadi Al King. It seemed that Al-King writes within the framework of an emerging and rare literary genre in Arabic literature, but he expands its capabilities and adds new features to set it apart from other similar ones.
