Abstract

The research sought to study the structural and thematic development of children’s poetry in the Oman by analyzing 6 collections of Omani poets to extract the characteristics of language, style, content, and form of Omani poetry directed to children. The research used a card to analyze 223 texts and concluded that the texts sampled for the study consider the standards of children’s literature in the axes (language, content, and form) in moderate proportions. In the characteristics of the language and style axis: the meanings and buildings are harmonious, and their words are simple, the sentence patterns are short and easy, and the paragraphs are interconnected in conveying the meaning. However, the results of the research revealed several deficiencies in this axis. Available characteristics and other characteristics that are not available in the content axes also emerged. The form requires increased attention to the standards of children’s literature and the necessity of their availability in the literature presented to children, whether poetry or prose.
